Code Camp Manifesto

You can sum it all up with Show me the CODE!

  1. By and For the Developer Community
Developers are the organizers, presenters, and the audience at Code Camp. It is a literal Peer-to-Peer conferenece.
  2. Always Free
What else do you need to know? If you are a hobbyist or professional, attending this event will only cost you your time, and it will be time well spent.
  3. Community Developed Material
This is a place for community members to show the code they are excited about. The community and the presenters decide what they want for presentations.
  4. No Fluff - Only Code
Less slide decks, more code samples. Code that is demonstrated must be shareable with the audience and community without restrictions.
  5. Community Ownership
The developer community owns the code camp, not any company or outside organization. All are welcome to attend and speak as members of the community. Everything that is presented is shared with the community. This isn’t about Open Source necessarily, but the community owns the event and the code presented.
  6. Never Occur During Working Hours
As community members we all have jobs too, and we know what it is like to get time off, even for training. That is why code camp is on the weekend.

One of the big points about Code Camp is Microsoft and other companies may be big contributors to the events, but they do not dictate the content or who is speaking. Pretty much anyone who wants to present on development related topics and share their code is more then welcome to do so. Sessions that focus on selling a tool or widget are not allowed. We all want to see the latest and greatest technology and tools, but get to the nuts and bolts, don’t give us a marketing presentation.
