Presentation Times and Scedule
In order to make a simple schedule for everyone, sessions will be each our, on the hour. Planning for 45 minutes of actual presentation with 5 minutes of slack is a good plan for using your session time. If you would like to break a single topic into 2 parts ( session 1, session 2 ), that is fine.
At this time, the thinking is that sessions will begin at 9AM and go until 5 with the noon hour for lunch.
Rooms and Facilities
Code Camp will be held in the College of Business building at Boise State University. Currently, we have verified the availability of 10 rooms, with capacities ranging from 35-100 people. Each room has a projector and whiteboards, and some rooms have work stations. It has been our experience that using the workstations requires some setup. If you would like to have participants use work stations as part of a workshop, please let us know in advance so we can work through any pre-requisites on the machines.
If you would like to set up for your presentation to quell any concerns about projector compatibility or other issues, you may come in anytime after 8AM to plug in. Room assignments will be published in advance so you will know where your session will be held. Please be prepared to walk away from the project at 10 minutes before the hour, letting the next presenter get ready for their session.
Most of the rooms have a presentation station, but our experience has been that presenters prefer to bring their own laptops. If you would like to use the built in presentation station for your session, please let us know what requirements you would like on the machine.
Green Room
There will be a Green Room available for presenters to prepare for your session. A volunteer will staff this room at all times throughout the day and you may leave your belongings in this secured room. Additional backup projectors will be kept here in the event of a projector failure in a classroom.
Speakers Dinner
There will be 2 pre-Camp events for speakers. The first is a focus on presentation skills and public speaking tips which will be held at the February Boise .Net User Group meeting at the Microsoft campus in Boise. This session is intended to help speakers prepare for their sessions, provide some tips for first time speakers, and have a general discussion about the upcoming Code Camp.
The second get-together for speakers will be the evening of March 7th, at a venue yet to be decided. This is a sponsored dinner for speakers and volunteers to get together and visit before the event and has proven to be a fun time in year’s past. Plan to attend!
T-Shirts
All presenters will get a free 2008 Boise Code Camp t-shirt. These will be distributed at the speaker’s dinner the night before Code Camp. You will be asked your shirt size in advance of the event.
Session Feedback
This is currently an open issue and one that will be taken up with the Code Camp planning committee.
Demographics of Attendees
No formal metrics exist for who will be in your session. Attendees are not required to register for particular tracks in advance. Given the free and flowing nature of the Code Camp format, preregistration provides no guarantee of attendance. Previous Code Camps have attracted people from IT, new and old developers, experienced an unblemished engineers, and business people looking to understand what those geeks are up to in their caves. There’s just no telling who you will find at Code Camp!
